Tareq Amin


Tareq Amin has a long history starting, investing in, selling, and advising technology companies, particularly in the data center, networking infrastructure, and cyber security. He was most recently the founder of DC74, a successful data center business that was acquired by Lumos Networks in 2017. DC74’s clients included all of the major telecom carriers and many Fortune 500 companies. Under Tareq’s leadership DC74 was recognized in Charlotte Fastest growing companies 5 years in row.

Prior to founding DC74 Tareq was the founder of CMEAC, a successful technology and network infrastructure consultancy that worked with leading data centers, telecoms, and merchants. Tareq has also invested in multiple early stage tech companies where he advises them on sustainable and profitable growth strategies, including most recently MapAnything, which was acquired by SalesForce.com, and Nexcess.net, a managed hosting platform that was acquired by Liquid web in 2019.


John Espey


John has been involved in the creation, capital raising, expansion, and sale of multiple companies including Amentra, Nexgrid, Reward Summit, and most recently Levvel. Levvel recently was recognized by Inc as a top 6% fastest growing company on the Inc 5000 list, having grown to over 200 people in five years. John was Levvel’s CEO for its first five years of existence.

Levvel is an industry leading digital transformation consultancy based in Charlotte. Its clients include 10 of the top 15 banks, all of the major credit card networks, AIG, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, CNN, Lineage Logistics, Dentsply Sirona, NBA.com, Siemens, and many other Fortune 500 clients. Levvel provides a combination of domain specific strategy consulting, application development, product design/UX/UI, Cyber Security, and DevOps/Cloud architecture.

Amentra was a fast growing IT consultancy that was acquired by Red Hat in 2008. John served as its COO and ran Red Hat’s Middleware consulting division in North America for two years post acquisition.


Kevin O’Dell

Chief Technology Officer

Kevin has an extensive background in the architecture, maintenance, and the deployment of enterprise technologies. He held roles at Cloudera, Rocana, and EMC in which he supported and architected some of the largest deployments on the planet.

While at Cloudera, he co-authored the O’Reilly Publication “Architecting HBase Applications.” Most recently O’Dell was CTO of Stratifyd, an AI company focused on Democratizing AI for the masses. While involved in the rapid scaling of startups, O’Dell found tailored solutions to some of the most difficult problems faced by enterprises in the analytics market. Today, Kevin is responsible for developing Defiance’s technical vision and execution.


Bryan Bellamy

Managing Director

Starting his first legitimate business in the fifth grade, Bryan was an entrepreneur from early on. Changing course from medical school, Bryan spent nearly a decade working on various startups before he founded The Refinery Haus (now a Defiance Ventures Portfolio company) to execute digital transformation inside enterprises across many industries. The agency focuses on digital customer acquisition & creatively enriching digital customer experience. As the Creative Managing Director of Defiance Ventures, Bryan leads both of these initiatives for portfolio businesses and clients, alike.
